THIS WEEK'S WORD: CAPTAIN
I was lucky enough to go whale watching off the coast of New Zealand a few years ago. The boat was full, despite warnings of a rough sea. A group of young Japanese tourists spread themselves about the boat, excitedly noisy. Ironically, as the four hour trip progressed, each one succumbed to the to-and-fro of the boat, wretching and moaning with sea sickness. They missed the spectacular sight of all six sperm whales which appeared to us that afternoon.
Captain had to mean 'Captain Ahab' for me.
Text reads (quote from Moby Dick):
"Swerve, me? The path to my fixed purpose is laid with iron rails whereon my soul is grooved to run" - Captain Ahab.
